While the current profit-oriented business paradigm creates positive impact for some rich parts of the global society, it also leads to a - less visible - massive exploitation of nature and people. The system is not harmonious.

A BRIEF INTRODUCTION

 

Companies rule the world. The successful ones hoard huge amounts of cash and are investing in `almost everything´. If they are banks, they even provide credit money to entire countries. Their tool of power is money, and this money is generated by profit. This is why TRI-MONY is built upon profit as the key driver. TRI-MONY means, that the profit of a company is divided into three equal parts. This partition into three thirds is a radical pledge.

 

The 1st third of a profit still remains with the owner (shareholder) of the company. This is crucial, as no rational investor can be expected to invest capital with nothing in return - given the many risks of an investment such as inflation, losses or even bankruptcy. In addition, there is greed, which may be considered as an inherent trait of human nature. By distributing one third of the profit to the company owner, all these aspects are well addressed.

 

The 2nd third of a profit deals with eco-social topics within the company. We consider this approach as Radical Corporate Social Resonsibility (Radical CSR). If you look at the full value chain of any company (including suppliers), there are entities for which people enjoy to work (imagine someone who is employed at the headquarter of one of the global blue chips). But there may also be other entities within the same value chain, at which the workforce potentially has to suffer harmful labour conditions. Just think of the garment workers in Bangladesh who lost their lives by the tragic Rana Plaza collapse. Hence, the second third of profit should be used to let everyone contributing to the value chain of a business have a fair share in the profit generated, so that they can maintain a decent life in dignity.

 

A company is always embedded in a wider community context (people and nature). The 3rd third of a profit shall be made available to the community in which the company operates and may affect negatively. We regard this approach as Radical Corporate Citizenship (Radical CC). As an example, a plastics producing company could take the initiative to filter sea water in order to extract the residues of their products (micro particles of plastic) which end up of polluting the oceans.

 

TRI-MONY embodies radicalism in several ways. On the one hand, it is radical because owners give up two thirds of profit. On the other hand, it is radical in terms of consequently dedicating those two thirds to making the world a BETTER place: One share to strive for more eco-social justice within a company and the other one to preserve the eco-social integrity of people and nature in the community in which a company is embodied.

 

In order to push towards a new and exploitation-free society, we are convinced that this new and radical perspective on a company's license to operate has the power to disrupt the current economic paradigms. At GSN, we strongly belive in the concept of TRI-MONY and are determined to fully embed it across all our business activities by the year 2020.
